  • October 2023: I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to give a talk and interact with colleagues at the Department of Integrative Immunobiology at Duke. A reminder of the fantastic research happening at the Research Triangle Area here in North Carolina. I am very happy to be part of this remarkable scientific community!
  • October 2023: We are happy to welcome Julia Bettes, a sophomore at UNC Department of Biology. Julia is a Biology Major and Chemistry Minor and she is interested in cellular and molecular research, specifically cancer research. Welcome Julia!
  • September 2023: Marianthi Gioulbasani presented a poster discussing her ongoing research on iNKT cell biology in our Genetics annual retreat that took place in beautiful Ashville!

  • July 2023: Our protocol Defining iNKT Cell Subsets and Their Function by Flow Cytometry is published in Current protocols. It was fun working with  Marianthi Gioulbasani, our iNKT cell expert, on this. 
  • January 2023: Our  On The Horizon perspective “TET proteins in the spotlight: Emerging concepts of epigenetic regulation in T cell biology” is published in ImmunoHorizons!
  • December 2022: Our “Protocol to isolate mature thymic T cell subsets using fluorescence-activated cell sorting for assessing gene expression by RNA-seq and transcription factor binding across the genome by CUT&RUN” by Dr. Dimitris Theofilatos et al., is published in STAR protocols. We hope it will be a useful resource for those interested in genomics using FACS sorted primary cells.
  • 08/05/2022: Our manuscript is published! We demonstrate that TET proteins regulate T cell and iNKT cell lineage specification in a TET2 catalytic dependent manner. Happy to contribute our work at Frontiers in Immunology in the research topic : Transcriptional and Epigenetic Control of T and Innate Lymphoid Cell Development and Function. This study was lead by Dr. Tarmo Äijö, our bioinformatics collaborator, with contribution from Dr. Dimitris Theofilatos, a postdoctoral fellow in the lab. Special thanks to our collaborators at UNC Dr. Al Baldwin, Dr. Yue Xiong and their lab members. Many thanks to Ms. Kayla Harrison for taking care of our mouse colonies and our amazing UNC Flow Cytometry Core.
  • 07/31/2022-08/04/2022: Excited to participate in my favorite FASEB conference: The Molecular Mechanisms of Immune Cell Development and Function. Happy to give a talk and present our most recent work, discuss with colleagues and exchange ideas in person, meet old friends and participate in a career development panel. I am looking forward to the next one! Until then I will cherish the memories from Nova Scotia:
  • 06/06/2022: We are excited to welcome Marianthi Gkioulmpasani, our research specialist, at UNC! Marianthi received her Master degree in Protein Biotechnology from the Biology Department at the University of Crete in Greece. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology (major in Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology) from the  Biology Department at the  University of Crete in Greece. We are thrilled to have her in our team!

  • 01/07/2021: Our invited review “Deciphering the multifaceted roles of TET proteins in T-cell lineage specification and malignant transformation” is online. We are excited to participate in the special issue  covering Transcriptional Regulation Lymphocyte (or immune cell) Development and Differentiation that was edited by Professor Amy Weinmann for Immunological Reviews.

  • 07/07/2020: The Tsagaratou lab receives 5-year NIH grant! We are honored and thrilled to receive a MIRA R35 from NIGMS to support our research regarding the epigenetic regulation of lineage specification. We are grateful to our collaborators and the UNC scientific community for advice and support. We are so excited to work on this and we are looking forward to breathtaking scientific discoveries!   • 05/11/2020: I am very excited and honored to accept a secondary appointment at the UNC Department of Microbiology & Immunology . I have enjoyed so far the numerous interactions with colleagues in the Department and I am looking forward to be part of the PhD program in Microbiology & Immunology!
  • 03/26/2020: Congrats to our amazing undergraduate students Nick Tsiouplis & Fiona Wissink for receiving a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)!!!  Looking forward to continue working  together  to decipher the epigenetic mechanisms that govern T-cell differentiation!
